August 21. 2007 our Shetlander mare refused to join the ladies at breakfast. Very strange. But very soon we understood why. In the background, away form the cob's she stood with a little black colt. He wasn't there the day before in the evening. Not knowing that she was breed, she hadn't gain on weight or anything...... we had ourselves a huge surprise.

We had to look through all our pictures from September 2006 to see whom might be the sire of this little Black Beauty... well we don't know. She was never near Scoop or Djino, only the 2006 colts. So now we will do a DNA test to confirm his sire.

Axelveds Unique will be gelded and kept as riding pony for our children.

Pretty fun to see a long legged Shetlander with feather and heavy boned legs... or a perfect miniature cob foal. We look forward to see this part breed combination growing up.

Knight is this years name theme. One of our future plans for some of our horses, are Jousting. We find this breed very suitable for this type of sport/event. Also the Knight is represented as a horse in the game of Chess. Many of our horses have the same names, and the Knight-name has not been used until now.

If we dig a bit down in the history (12th to 16th century), we will find the Fitzgerald family from Ireland (Ireland the land of origin for this breed), in here we can read about Silken Thomas, (also the name of our late stallion) and the Earl of Kildare. The Knight of Glin (the Black Knight) & The Knight of Kerry (the Green Knight) is connected to the Fitzgerald's. So... isn't it obvious for us, to use the Knight-name this year?
